Maureen Langan-Egan (Author) Biography
Maureen Langan-Egan is the daughter of Thomas Langan and Kathleen Sharkey.
Born in Ballina, County Mayo, she was educated in Annaghmore National School,
Gortnor Abbey Secondary School, Crossmolina and the Convent of Mercy, Ballina,
Co. Mayo.  She is a graduate of the National University of Ireland Galway (formerly
called University College Galway) and Fairfax University.

Maureen taught for several years in Athlone, Western Nigeria, Gort and in two
schools in Galway. Since 1990 until her retirement in 2006, she was a member of
the Education Department of the National University of Ireland, Galway.  She is
currently the Academic Director of the American Summer School, the TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language) programmes run under the auspices of the Department of Adult and Continuing Education.

Maureen has a particular interest in local history, including women's history and she supplied some of the data for the Family Tree.  In this, she was assisted by her brother Padraic Langan of Mullinmore North, Crossmolina.  Padraig was born in Ballina, educated in Annaghmore National School and St. Enda's College, Galway.  He trained as a Primary Teacher and was Principal Teacher of Glenmore National School, Moygownagh until his recent retirement. He also graduated from University College, Galway.  Padraic has an ongoing interest in family and local history and is also a computer buff and keen angler.
